From Bark to Bottle with Faram’s Beth

Faram’s Beth recently visited a corking facility that works with our supplier partners Rankin Brothers & Sons and discovered the magic.

Since the 1800’s Rankin has been the custodian of some 2,000 hectares of `probably the finest’ cork forests in Portugal.

Across their FSC-accredited properties, they manage approximately 200,000 cork oaks, harvesting corkwood on a 9-year cycle for each tree, removing non productive or diseased trees and planting between 5-15,000 saplings per year. These forests sequester some 28,800 tonnes of CO2 per annum.

Rankin sells its harvested corkwood to its long-standing partner Cork Supply, who transforms the raw material and produces cork stoppers for Rankin to sell.
